Last night over dinner Cliff looked at me and said --- 'Hey- Valentine's Day is this week! What are we doing? Do we care?' I responded with a giggle and a -- 'Yeah! Uhhhh.... it is! You're going to be out of town. I think it's safe to say we don't care.'
He says, 'Let's do something! What sounds good?'
I say, 'How about we write each other old fashioned loved letters... and then email them!'
He says, 'PERFECT!'
Then there was high five followed by a chip dip in awesome guacamole and we went back to the original conversation which was about Cliff's fast approaching trip to California and the check list of things that we wanted to make sure happened before he left. At the top of the list was oiling up before bed.
Anytime we are about to travel we make sure to rub our bodies with oil days leading up to the trip. Coconut oil is better than any lotion money can buy. It's free of the chemicals found in most lotions and it will actually draw toxins out of your skin! Plus you'll experience the deepest sleep and wake up smelling really yummy. We keep a jar in the bathroom for our skin and a jar in the kitchen for cooking.
Coconut oil (along with ghee + sesame oil) does really well at high temperatures because it is a medium chained fatty acid. This also means that it digests more quickly and easily than long chained fatty acids like corn oil, soybean oil, safflower oil and most vegetable oils which quickly turn to fat in your body.
This healthy fat will quickly boost your energy levels as well as your metabolism, thereby aiding in natural weight loss (YAY!). If you haven’t gotten the memo yet, FAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT! At least not natural + real + healthy fats.
Coconut oil is also the best natural source of natural lauric acid, which is touted to destroy fungus, bacteria and viruses, like ringworm, athlete’s foot, the flu, common colds, herpes, HPV, bronchitis, yeast infections/candida and more. Well hello healing powers, come on in!
If that didn’t have you reaching for a spoonful of coconut oil, maybe these other benefits will: - Boosts your immune system (thus protecting you from viruses + infections + other pathogens) - Helps to lower your cholesterol - Increases your ability to absorb vitamins - Improves your brain health – there is a lot of recent research on it’s beneficial effects on Alzheimer’s patients!
What is the Difference Between Coconut Oil and Coconut Butter?
Coconut Oil is extracted (usually cold-pressed) from the meat of the coconut – it’s great for everything from cooking oil to body moisturizer. Coconut Butter is the actual coconut meat that is pureed into a creamy butter—I like to think of it as whipped coconut. It is packed with nutrients and great in everything from smoothies to sauces!
How To Get In Your Body
There are so many ways to add coconut to your diet! I know people that just eat it straight, but my two favorites modes to get it in my belly are using it to saute veggies in and putting it in smoothies.
Try one of these recipes out:
And of course get coconut oil ON YOUR BODY too!
If you find yourself having the 'what are we doing for Valentine's day' conversation... may I suggest you by a jar of coconut oil and rub it all over each other and... you know, just enjoy what unfolds. Trust me, it's good for you!
To love and coconuts, Lacy
