DIY Natural Mosquito Repellent

Cliff and I are adjusting to life in Texas!  We're realizing just how much time we spent outdoors in California and how the elements and the BUGS challenge that here.  Over the weekend we got devoured by the skeeters and after reading the backs of way too many bug repellents (scary chemicals) I set out to create a natural lacylike mosquito repellent!  After testing it out on every willing family member I am so excited to announce that IT WORKS!  It's the easiest little formula to make and safe for the whole family (dogs included).

NATURAL MOSQUITO REPELLENT

INGREDIENTS

  • spray bottle (a dark bottle is best for storing it long term)
  • Witch Hazel
  • Eucalyptus Essential Oil
  • Lemon Essential Oil

I used a little spray bottle I had but if you're looking to purchase one go for something like this.  How fun would it be to make little bottles to put outside for hot summer nights, parties, picnics, etc!

PREPARATION

Star mixing until you get the desired amount for your bottle size:

  • 3 tablespoons of Witch Hazel
  • 15 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil
  • 10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil

Keep it out of direct sunlight. You can reapply as often as you like!  I pretty much sit outside spray bottle in hand and shake and spray, spray, spray!  Even on my face!  You really only need to reapply every hour or so or after swimming or lots of sweating.

Witch Hazel is an AWESOME thing to keep around the house, it's great as an astringent for your face, spot treatment for blemishes and helps to speed up the healing time for bruises.

To more time outside with less bug bites!
