Something is happening.

photo-3-14.jpg

We're playing.Wresting. Laughing more. I'm humming and dancing and speaking in accents (I do a mean Texan accent, naturally. Decent British, though my English friends may heartily disagree. Working on Irish and it be super cool to be able to do an Australian accent).

Cliff says... "I can already tell you're happier." I watched him drive our mega beast of a land yacht home with this amazing grin on his face. He's happier too. They advertised it at 36 feet and that would have fit into the driveway perfectly. We learned when we got it home that it is 40 feet! We're calling them bonus inches.

Thing is, life isn't getting any easier. We've just changed our perspective. We're in hot pursuit of a dream! If anything there's WAY more going on and lots more uncertainty. We have a month to renovate and move into our new RV before our lease is up at the end of June. We are still going to work everyday. The garage is full of post sale leftovers and every room in the house is strewn with remnants of what used to be a thoughtfully decorated home.

We're both a few pounds heavier from buying groceries and then eating out anyway. We're observing it happening without judgement and with a tremendous sense of humor. At the end of the week if something didn't get eaten I make a HUGE batch of juice. It ensures we're still eating what we're buying, it's not going to waste and a few of our favorite healthy routines are still in place. Smoothies + juices are mainstays in this house. We love our liquids. Of course it's always best to juice fruits and veggies when they are fresh but I'm here to tell you... permission granted to do the best you can in the moment you're in. It's all ok. Bendy celery and all.

RV before

Check it out. Our RV came with a kitty! It was a surprise. We cracked up laughing when we first saw it. My friend Chanel says we should call her Barb, short for Rhubarb. I laugh every time I think of it so Barb may stick! I'm also totally loving Dolores. Sweet ole Barb or Dolores will be back there cheering us on as we make these giant leaps forward.

Something else is happening that's pretty monumental. I'm opening up to receiving in really big soul shifting ways. We both are. We are inviting people to help us make this dream come true with any form of energy they wish to contribute... time, money, well wishes, recommendations on amazing places to see or driveways we can park in! We are sharing our hopes + dreams in a really public way. It feels vulnerable and hopeful, sometimes really good and others pretty raw. The virtual hugs + applause have been pretty amazing thus far. So many sweet emails and notes and Facebook messages. Thank you for all you're doing for us. Thank you for how you're showing up and shaping lives. Thank you for following along on the journey! We appreciate you. I appreciate you. BIG TIME.

Time feels like it's being suspended over here. We're moving quickly. We picked up our new (to us) RV on Wednesday. I glazed over as they were telling us how to operate all the systems. Cliff caught most of it. There's a learning curve for sure! We still can't figure out how to make the water pump work or how to get the awning to unroll. Anyone have tips? We'll take em!

We ended up spending our first night in a Wal Mart Parking lot due to a blown fuze + no headlights. Yeap. First night at Wal Mart. We brought her home Thursday. Demo is happening. Mom + I are peeling and peeling and more peeling of old wall paper. It's pretty grody under there. We're finding the dreaded for letter word MOLD. And it smells like you think... musty. It poured yesterday which was a gift. Now we know what windows need attention. Whew.... it's all one big adventure and I'm learning that adventure really means advanced troubleshooting.peeling paper

When Cliff gets home from work tonight we will take out the microwave + the couch. I have a paint quote coming soon from our neighbor who happens to be a painter! And my dear friend and interior designer, Jamie House, will be coming over this weekend to help with design decisions + source folks to work with around town!

irish. single. ready to mingle.

The previous owner of the RV was clearly Irish, single + ready to mingle. So funny. He also kept impeccable records which we are super grateful for! She's got good bones and has been well cared for where systems are concerned. Looks like she may need a little brake work so if you know any diesel mechanics in the Houston area we could use a good one!

Off to do some more peeling! Calling it my motorhome meditation. Lacy

Garage Sale Success!

photo-1-17.jpg

This past weekend we had a mega garage sale! We treated it as a going away party for our stuff. It was partly a FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC party complete with confetti on the driveway and reminders for people to follow their dreams. The other part was balancing emotions, lack of sleep and the chaos of getting ready. We got up at 5:30 am and by 9:30 I was in tears. They showed up unannounced and poured out of me with such a sense of urgency I couldn't help but just let them flow. As more and more of our things started to go I felt literal space opening up inside of me + the immensity of this change. It's full spectrum exciting and scary all at the same time. A lot to digest. After months of talking + dreaming about the possibility of selling (nearly) everything and living in an RV it's all happening. I'm learning + observing so much through this journey. I'm learning to give myself space + permission to take care of myself instead of muscling through. I went to bed at 5:30 pm yesterday and slept til 6 am this morning. Solid as a rock. I'm learning to ask for what I need (a biggie). I'm observing my family, friends, neighbors, strangers in their response to our decision. My family has been wildly supportive helping in every way possible by donating things to the sale, buying things from the sale, making signs, getting up early, staying up late, buying food... I could go on and on and on. We're getting hugs and congratulations from our neighbors. So many sweet old guys (almost all in suspenders with respectable bellies) came to the garage sale to buy tools and told us they wished they'd done the same thing when they were young. There are moments I'm still completely paralyzed by just how much there is to do and in others Cliff + I are noticing that we haven't been this happy and playful in a long time. It all feels so much bigger than us. It feels like a hidden door that leads somewhere really cool is about to blast wide open!

The garage sale was a huge success. We made just over 3K. At. A. Garage. Sale. I know! We can feel so many people rallying in in support of our big RV dreams! Customers offered up recommendations of places to visit...Tennessee (lots of votes for Tennessee! It's apparently super charming), New Hampshire, Minnesota, Montana. Kayla's idea to fill-a-bag-for-$5-fire-sale was a big hit! I highly recommend that method for moving out clothes + shoes! My brother-in-law, Brian could sell me my own shirt and I'd feel really good about it. One of my favorite moments was when my mom's best friend, Susan, asked a guy what he thought would be a fair price for an item. He said $7 and she said, 'OK then, $7 it is.' He turned an walked away. LOL!

Five Garage Sale Tips for Bringing in the Big Bucks ::

1. Have great signs + lots of them.

I think we had 25 or 30 signs. People stopped by and said they came just because the signs made them laugh. Make sure the day of the week + address is on each sign. Hoarders Paradise and Awesome Crap were the favorites.

2. Give people a reason to come buy your awesome crap!

Put furniture and big ticket items on the sidewalk for curb appeal! Saturday garage sales have always been the biggest money makers for us. Start early.

3. Post an ad on Craigslist the week before + share it on Facebook.

Bonus points if it's got a sense of humor! Here's mine:

This is the black Friday of yard sales!

May 24

We are selling nearly everything we own to buy an RV and travel the USA! Not kidding. Plus the neighbors are throwing in some of their items to sell.

Think THREE BEDROOM HOUSE/ 2 CAR GARAGE WORTH OF STUFF ALL FOR SALE!

----> Starts at 8 on the dot. <----- No early birds. But really, don't come early.

This is a Hoarders Paradise! A DIY'er Paradise! Need craft supplies? OH You've come to the right place! Any scrapbookers out there? Would you like a scrapbook, how about 20?

Need a canvas, how about 10? Paint supplies?

Need small appliances? Good, we've got those! Bread maker anyone!

How about TOOLS? Yeap, got those! Jacks, ramps, power tools, good old fashioned man grunting tools.

Need a TV? Or two? How about a really big flat screen tv?

Garden pots, potted plants (seriously, it's all got to go). We have 4 potted trees to sell. Need a green house? Garden hoses, Sky chair, outdoor furniture, paver stones (that cost us what felt like a fortune to buy and move, my back still hurts thinking about it.)

Loads of home decor. I *Might* have a small addiction to decorative throw pillows. Just saying. Frames galore. Framed art.

Towels. Linens. Rugs. Rugs. More Rugs.

C L O T H E S, shoes (mens + womens + baby)

Baby toys.

Pottery barn bathroom mirrors, Crate + Barrel accessories. etc etc etc.... Antique furniture. Ikea desk.

All awesome people invited! Come help us buy an amazing RV! Come get cool stuff and help us make our dream come true. Or come by and donate a buck or two because you're a dreamer too and you totally get it.

See you there!

xxxx street name city, zip

p.s. seriously no early birds. We've got a TON of stuff to set up so we need to get it all out there and then you can have your go at it!

4. When things slow down use reusable shopping bags or brown paper sacks for a $5 (or whatever amount feels best for you) Fire Sale!

They can stuff as much as they want in the bag for 5 bucks. The disbelief then excitement followed by frenzy to fill the bag is pretty awesome to watch. We never told people they had to do it quickly but hands down they always rushed through like it's Super Market Sweep!

5. Make sure you eat at regular intervals, drink lots of water + wear sunscreen! And the most important to do is to HAVE FUN!

Don't take customers personally. They don't know (or care) that vase they are haggling over was a wedding gift. Disconnect from the emotion of your things as much as humanly possible. It's all taking up space. You are creating more room for what you really want through letting it go.

We had tremendous help creating all kinds of space through this sale this weekend. Thank you Mema, Mom + Tom, Suzie, Kayla + Brian + Chloe, Cody, Kallie + Kaitlyn, Aunt Mary + Kelley, Aunt Sue. Thank you for your help. Your donations. Your purchases. Your kind words. Your love. Your support. xo, Lacy + Cliff

We're headed to pick up our new mobile abode this Wednesday! I can hardly wait to see it in person. We may even spend the night on the road on the way back home! You can follow me on Instagram @lacylike to see the journey continue to unfold!

It's getting really fun now! Lacy

We've found THE ONE!

photo-2.jpg

Earlier this week I swore off looking at motor homes after some very good advice from my sister, "L-a-c-y, STOP looking until it feels fun again!" I've been searching Craigslist + RV sites daily for months looking for THE ONE and it had gotten exhausting. I took her advice and the advice from her daily TUT message that she forwarded to me... "Kayla, you aren't in time and space to hit home runs. Couldn't even if you wanted to. Can't be done. The logistics are impossible. And besides, the pressure from trying would overwhelm the hardiest of souls.

Home runs are what I do. You just pitch.

You want a new job, pitch it to me. You want more friends, pitch it to me. You want to lose weight, improve relationships, or strike it rich, pitch it to me.

There's nothing you can throw that I can't hit clear out of the park.

Tallyho, The Universe"

I had a solid conversation with the Universe and ordered up a home run. I pitched our RV over + knew that when it felt right again I'd resume the search! It happened last night! It was 8pm, I was waiting for Cliff to get home from work. My work day was done. I was just about to leave my office and I thought... hmmmm think I'll do a few searches. I called a few numbers and talked to what felt like the exact same guy each time. It's the first time I've called so many of the phone numbers instead of just sending an inquiry email. I was too busy having fun recalling the conversations I'd just had about the importance of a diesel pusher vs puller, the pro's + con's of washer/ dryer combos, of donuts + energy drinks + friends named Bud that I forgot to put in my usual strict parameters on the search. And that's when it happened.

I saw this title:

***CLEAN 1994 36ft Safari Continental Diesel pusher!

And so I clicked and called and talked to a fella named Rob who confirmed it was not a Craigslist scam but an actual RV for actual sale outside of Ft. Worth. It had been listed for 6 hours and the moment I saw it I knew IT WAS THE ONE! I called Cliff 3 times... 'Geeeeet HOME! I've found it! I've FOUND IT!' I called my mom + my sister and we poured over every image. Over the potential in this baby!

Kale On Wheels Before Cliff loves that the door is mid way down instead of right at the passenger seat. I see a wrap job in our future! I mean gold + blue + brown is spunky and all but we don't own matching velour track suits. It's gotta look like the Kale On Wheels mobile, right?! We will be taking name suggestions for the coach! Not sure if it's a lady coach or a dude yet. Time will tell.

Kale On Wheels Cockpit Before

Leather seats a plus, those will stay.

Kale One Wheels Kitchen/ Living Before

Potential central! Think painted cabinets, new cover for the sofa (it's a creamy brocade fabric now). The table + chairs will go as will that leather recliner and not exactly sure what's going on next to it... some kind of table and lamp that will likely go. The light fixture will GO (it's yours if you want it).

Kale On Wheels Living Before

I love the double fridge!

Kale On Wheels Kitchen Before

I want to put in a new counter top + tile back splash. LOVE how much counter space there is. New hardware on the cabinets -  a must. Maybe a new sink. The microwave/ convection oven will come out. No death boxes will be permitted on the Kale On Wheels Mobile Abode ; ) The washer/ dryer combo lives under those two burners in the cabinet.

Kale On Wheel Hallways Before

The vanity will become a desk! Yay for dedicated workspace!

Kale On Wheels Bathroom Before

I know it doesn't look like much but this is among the biggest RV bathrooms I've seen in our price range. The toilet will come out and we'll be getting a composting toilet.

Kale One Wheels Bedroom Before

Not sure if we will be able to fit our Cal King mattress in here but it looks like a definite maybe! The box tv will come out.

Kale On Wheels Bedroom View Before

It has everything we wanted (except an oven but that's o.k. I want to get a Sun Oven!). It has air brakes and a Magnum chassis to boot! Honestly, I don't know what a magnum chassis means but my dirty mind always says anything named magnum is a good thing.

We leave for vacation on Sunday morning so this morning we put down a deposit and we will go pick it up when we get back! Which also means plenty of time to finish selling our belongings to get the money to pay for our new home. Like I said in my first post, this whole experience is an exercise in trust! We're following what feels good in our bodies, in our hearts at every turn and this feels SO GOOD!

The timing of it all is nothing short of divine. After all the morning phone calls, back and forth questions and what if's, sending our information and getting the confirmation that we're all squared away, Cliff and I sat down to eat breakfast. I say, "OK so we will go and pick it up on the 28th!" He looks at me and his eyes well up, "That's dad's birthday." Tears + laughter. Of course it's his dad's birthday! He passed away two years ago and we've felt his love + guidance showing up for us in undeniable ways through this process. Another high five moment.

So here we go! We are selling, selling, selling our belongings. We are having an epic garage sale on the 24th of May and on the 28th we will bring our new home home. Wait? You know what I mean!

It's all happening! IT'S ALL HAPPENING! Lacy

BIG. BIG. BIG. News

photo.jpg

We've made a huge decision. We're selling nearly everything we own + buying an RV. Seriously. We are going to live in it and travel the USA (and maybe parts of Canada and we really want to go to Alaska too). And of course Ned is coming! It's already a WILD ride. I move from moments of pure elation, heart thumping in my chest, feeling a rush of adrenaline and saying to Cliff, "I'm so excited about our life." And the next moment I am standing in a room in our home looking around unable to move. Where do we begin? How do we start to sell nearly everything we own? How many "keep" bins can I justify? Do I really need to keep the Christmas box? Does any of it matter? Do we need two plates or four in the RV? Or wait, maybe more? How many shoes can I justify taking? There are soooo many questions!

It's been years of striving to buy a bigger, flatter TV and then another. When we lived in San Jose we literally had a TV in all the major rooms. I'm not proud of that, it felt over-the-top even then but we did it because that's what new home owners do (or so we thought). This relationship we have to stuff is mind blowing. We have more stuff then would could ever need and that's just in the closets. S-t-u-f-f. I feel like a stuff expert right about now.

We are knee deep into the clean out phase. We've taken inventory of our major belongings and I'm posting on CraigsList almost daily. We are meeting the coolest people along the way via CraigsList. I always have the best luck posting there. I CAN'T WAIT to see who we will meet on the road. I learn over and over that life is all about connections, sharing our stories, how we got here, what we are learning along the way and I am just so excited to collect experiences as we meet new friends and fall in love with our beautiful country.

We're calling it the Kale On Wheels Tour and I know it's going to be EPIC! I'm so excited to share the journey with you as we leap into the unknown, trust our intuition + desire to simplify.

Some of the things we know for sure: - There are way more questions than answers at this point (LOTS more) but we feel like we are headed in the right direction. Lots of little Universal winks + nods whooshing by as we give away + sell things. - Our lease is up on our rental house end of June. - We are going to buy a fixer upper RV and renovate it hopefully in time for the end of the lease. - If the end of June timeline is a total bust we will move in with my mom. We live less than a mile from each other so if we go that route it will be a really easy transition and goodness knows we will have MUCH LESS to move. - We are looking for a diesel RV. We are going to convert it to run on veggie oil + make the whole thing as green as possible with LED lights, composting toilet + solar panels. The Kale On Wheels Tour will settle for nothing less than an environmentally friendly coach (that's what they call Rv's. We are learning all kinds of new words)! - Some days I feel like a kid on Christmas eve... way too excited to sleep. Way too many thoughts in my head. And other days I am so overwhelmed by it all I can't see straight. It's a lot. - We are going to have probably the biggest garage sale of our lives near the end of May. It should be hilarious. We are literally going to carry furniture out from where it lives in our house into the yard. The garage is STUFFED and the piles are growing every couple of days. - We will work from the road. Some Q's still rolling around there too but we know there will be working and it will be from the RV. I'm crazy grateful for the internet.

Onward! Lacy
